Getting Over A Breakup The Bible Way

It’s okay… it’s okay!

“You’ve cried enough, it’s okay.”

“Cheer up and move on.”

More often than not, people hear these words with a pat on their back when they are going through a particularly tough period in their lives.

Perhaps, in this season of preparation towards your dreams and goals; you have been faced with situations that have caused you to ‘breakup’ with these dreams and goals, wondering how you are going to get through.

You are no stranger to this; Prophet Samuel in the Bible went through this very same thing!

Searching scripture this very morning, I realised this is probably one of the best ‘get over it’ messages the bible has to deliver:

Lets move to Prophet Samuel’s home in Rameah according to 1 Samuel 15:34-35,  shall we?

Prophet Samuel is lying facedown in his chamber; weeping profusely.

Saul has been rejected by God as king over all of Israel and Samuel cant believe it. He’s wept throughout the night because God was sorry He ever made Saul king over all of Israel.

I imagine God was staring down at Prophet Samuel gently, waiting for him to rouse himself up.

Eventually God prods him in 1 Samuel 16 and says, “How long shall you mourn for Saul? Since I have rejected him as king over Israel?”

Prophet Samuel sat up as God continued, “Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

How does this story add up as a way to get over a breakup?

Notice in 1 Samuel 15:34-35, how Prophet Samuel and Saul parted, never to see each other again? That was a breakup of the relationship they once had!

And here, Prophet Samuel clearly was distraught. He couldn’t imagine anyone can come who will be better than Saul and yet see what God says about Saul, that is Prophet Samuel’s past:

“The Lord has torn the Kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbours; to one better than you.”

If Prophet Samuel had dwelled on these words, he wouldn’t have been so distraught because he would have known better is coming.

But see how God helped Samuel get over it!

He asked Samuel to fill his horn with oil!

Queen fill yourself with the oil of God! With the oil of gladness! The oil of Joy! Of peace! Of Hope! Of His anointing! And at the appointed time, the good Lord will show you who to anoint as king/husband in your life. The good lord will show you which job to anoint as your own or which plan to anoint for that multi-million dollar business.

God, in helping Prophet Samuel get over it, showed Samuel that his choice is always better. He showed Samuel that He doesn’t look at the outward appearances of man when choosing a king and yet still, His choice ends up being the better king!

So in this season, back away from the comfort food- thats not the best way to get over it:

But go God’s way- for His way is always better:

Cheers to moving on and carrying on:

Jesus Loves You and I do too,

Queen’s in Christ,

Ann Adu-Darko❤️
