Before you get indignant by the title, hold on; I am not trying to offend anyone.
I recently came by these chunky bits of salt in my kitchen:
And was immediately reminded that there’s one man in the Bible who can tell you for a fact that he had a wife who became a pillar of salt; and that man was called Lot.
And you know why she become a pillar of salt?
Because she looked back.
Yup, that’s right.
She looked back.
In this Queen Esther Preparation journey, you need to understand the importance of not looking back at the past.
Let’s move to Sodom and Gomorrah, shall we?
“Wifey, the angels are saying we have to leave this place now for the Lord has sent them to destroy this place!” Lot urgently said to his wife.
“- oh how can we leave? We have so much going on here.” Mrs. Lot said dragging her foot.
“- we have to leave-.” started Lot, who was starting to linger because of his wife.
True to his word, the angels came, grabbing he, his wife and daughters by the hand as they hurried them out of the city of Sodom and Gomorrah.
As the angels hurried them away, they said to them, “Escape for your life, do not look back!…”
However, even as they started the journey away from their old home- thoughts started plaguing Mrs. Lot’s mind. How can they ask us to leave? We have wonderful memories here. How can we leave behind all these memories?
And with that, she looked back,
And she became a pillar of salt.
Genesis 19:12-26 (ESV) tells us clearly what happens to a wife who consistently looks back.
What are you looking back for, Queen? Do you want to turn into a pillar of salt?
Perhaps at the moment you are just a girlfriend or a wife and all you have been able to do is to keep looking back. You keep looking back at past sins which God has delivered both you and your boo from. At past mistakes that God is burning up like Sodom and Gomorrah!
You don’t want to become a pillar of salt, hun.
You don’t want to become a monument for people to point out and say, “She didn’t see the new thing that God was doing so she became stuck in one place and became salty!”
**salty has become a slang which means bitter**
Queen, stop looking back; behold, God is doing a new thing!
‘Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.’ ESV Isaiah 43:19
Be more aware of the new thing that God is doing than the past He has destroyed! Queen Esther had to stop dwelling on the fact that she was an orphan to be chosen by the King. When the King met her, he didn’t see someone longing for her past but rather someone who longed for a future with him.
“And Esther won favour in the king’s sight more than all the other maidens”
In your season of preparation be sure to stop looking back at the past. The past is no more; the future is what you have to look forward to.
God is burning up your past for you to look forward to a brighter future :
Allow God to burn up the Sodom and Gomorrah of your past; lest you become a pillar of salt!
