“Hope differed maketh the heart sick.”
More often than not, people’s body temperature rises when they are sick. The Bible shows us that when a person is hoping towards something and that thing does not occur as he or she hoped, their heart is likely to become sick.
Whether metaphorically or not, in the context of this post; a sick heart may have a temperature.
The question is, does the heart become hot or cold?
What temperature is your heart?
Perhaps you have encountered a situation that has left you hurt and lets face it, when hurt we just want to turn away from the warmth of everyone so we can keep our hearts to ourselves, covering it up so much that it gets cold.
A cold heart.
Do you have a cold heart, Queen?
I happened to find myself in a science lab recently and the Holy Spirit started to speak to me on the nature of peoples hearts:
Maybe you didn’t start off that way- maybe your heart was open and loving; ready to believe everything and suddenly a situation occurs that causes you to shrink back- to keep your heart- which was once loving- to yourself.
But hun, in doing that it means you are telling the devil he’s won.
You see, if God allows for a hope you hoped in to be differed, it means He has a greater hope for you which will come to pass, yet, if you stay stagnant at what you are currently facing that has caused your hearts temperature to suddenly go cold- then you will miss out on the greater hope that He has for you.
You are not alone in this; Naomi had cause to have a cold heart:
“Don’t call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the almighty has dealt bitterly with me.” (ESV Ruth 1:20)
Yet as time went on, she recognised that God had something greater in mind- God caused her to nurse Obed who was in the genealogy of Jesus Christ!
What temperature is your heart, Queen?
Hot or Cold?
Or both?
Remember what the scripture says about being a mixture of both:
“So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” (ESV Revelation 3:16)
So fiercely guard your heart.
An example of someone who has persevered inspite of the wounds to her heart is Queen Esther. She was an orphan! She easily could have said to herself, “I am not going to love anyone, what if they just die on me?”
But no, she didn’t do that, she kept on loving her Uncle Mordecai and eventually God blessed her with the opportunity to love the King!
You’ve been hurt in your preparation season? Don’t go cold- its a test. Keep your heart free of any ill will. People will talk, let them talk but the God who sees your heart is free of every bitterness will cloud you in His Glory.
In this season of preparation, whether you are preparing towards marriage, goals or plans; don’t approach it with a cold heart- rather keep your heart on fire for Jesus!
Keep hot!
Keep hot for Christ hun; its healthier that way-
