More often than not, we hear the story of Jezebel and we get indignant; professing how we will never be like her-
And may we never be like her!
However, just recently as I was meditating on the word, I realised just how easily any woman can fall prey and become like Jezebel.
You see, Jezebel really was just a woman so in love and so determined to be of help to her husband- the only catch here is that she was a help-mate who over helped!
Hahaa…
Over-helped? Is there such a thing?
Well, get this; if God asks you to be a help-mate for a man, He’s not asking you to take His role as God and thats what Jezebel tried to do-
Don’t believe this? Well, let’s head on to the palace of King Ahab of Samaria in the book of 1 Kings 21, shall we?
Jezebel enters into the bed chamber of the King. When she does, she notices that he has his face turned to the wall.
“What’s happening honey bunny? Why are you not eating?” says Jezebel, sitting next to her husband, Ahab.
“I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!”
Jezebel fumed; thinking to herself- how can he turn down my husband- does he not know the king my husband is? The power he has?
So she demanded, “Are you the king of Israel or not?? Get up and eat something, and don’t worry about it- I will get you Naboth’s vineyard!”
So she took matters into her own hands! Writing letters in her husbands name and sealing them with his seal and devising for two scoundrels to sit beside Naboth who will accuse him of cursing God and the king so that Naboth will be stoned to death.
She got her wish because her plan sailed through and Naboth indeed was stoned to death.
Satisfied, Jezebel said to her husband, “You know the vineyard Naboth wouldn’t sell you? Well, you can have it now! He’s dead!”
And her husband Ahab, pleased at what his wife has done for him, got up immediately to claim Naboth’s vineyard!
Reading this story, we can almost say, “Awwww, see how Jezebel pulled all the stops to get what her husband wanted, she loves him so much!”
We can so easily say that.
But at what expense?
At the expense of a godly life?
At the expense of going against God?
Dear Queen, the message to you today in your preparation towards getting wedded to that man in future is to know that although you are his help-mate- you are not the controller of his destiny. You cannot play God in his life, nor do you have to kill an innocent soul just to please your boo.
There are many now who will do anything and I mean anything, for the man God has brought to their lives and so would I! Yet, I, just like everyone else will have to humble myself under the mighty hand of God and follow his leading at all times and not my selfish desires.
Perhaps you are that CEOs wife, and you will stop at nothing just to make sure his plans work out.
Perhaps you are that first lady in the church, and just like Jezebel, you will literally destroy anyone who poses as a threat to your husbands ministry no matter how innocent they may be.
Perhaps, you treat your job like your Ahab and to protect it; you get all Jezebel-like in control of it.
Well, be warned- because Jezebel’s end was not pretty.
… And regarding Jezebel, the Lord says, “Dogs will eat Jezebel’s body at the plot of land in Jezreel” 1Kings 21:23
So Queens, in your preparation towards marriage or whatever goals you may have, lets please learn to give God total control and not become the controllers of our own destinies.
Learn to not give in to the Jezebel-like spirit.
Cheers to the art of submission,
Jesus Loves You and I do too,
Queens in Christ,
Ann Adu-Darko❤️
