Happy Yourself

Ever heard anyone say happy yourself?

You would if you ever found yourself in a Ghanaian crowd.

“Happy Yourself’ has basically become colloquial which simply means, ‘No one can make you happy until you are happy with yourself first.’

Time and time again, people are so bent on bae appearing in their lives to make them happy.

People are so bent on gaining that job to make them happy.

Or on achieving that goal to make them happy.

That man

That ring

That gown

That perfect wedding

But hun, if you are going to wait until you receive those things before you get happy; chances are when those gifts appear in your life, you are bound to find fault with it-

It’s either bae is going to be too tall for your liking or that gown is not going to fit as you want it… or this or that…

Musing over scripture, I realised there is one man in particular who applied the ‘happy-yourself’ principle a lot.

King David.

Yup,

Remember him in scripture? Especially the scripture which shows us how depressed he and his army were when they came back home to find that all their women and children had been carried away? His army became so depressed to the extent that they thought of stoning him!

“When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, they wept until they could weep no more… David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him.” 1 Samuel 30: 3-6

Yet see what David ended up doing-!

“But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6

See?

He didn’t wait for anyone to come and give him moral support. He rose up himself and laid hold of the word of God- encouraging himself in God.

Happy yourself, Queen.

In the midst of your preparation stages, there will be many hurdles- many things that might cross you which would cause you to feel like giving up. Don’t give in- happy yourself- encourage yourself in the Lord your God.

You need to learn how to be happy and whole in yourself even before you get into marriage because once your king travels or is away for a time, what are you going to do?

Ask Queen Esther, even she as a queen did not see her King for 30 days!

“And the king has not called me to come to him these 30 days” (Esther 4:11)

Imagine the anguish she must have felt- yet she had to learn to ‘happy herself’.

Don’t know how to be in a positive place? How about you sip out all the negativity from your life?:

How about you order a meal you enjoy?

How about you order a meal you enjoy?
How about you order a meal you enjoy?

How about you meet up with trusted friends and take a terrible video with your phone as the food comes out?

How about you just take a stroll into a park to enjoy nature?

Don’t wait for someone to make you happy; team up with Jesus and get happy.

“But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His Glory is revealed” (1 Peter 4:13)

Cheers to becoming happy Queens!

Jesus Loves You and I do too,

Queens in Christ,

Ann Adu-Darko❤️
