Folly’s Hands

Don’t we all love a good manicure?

Nails glistening with color and life?

Hands raised high in worship because people can see how perfectly manicured your hands are when you do?

• Or when you know he’s going to propose that weekend; how you make sure our hands are ready for the show

Hahaa…

Allow me to introduce you to a man who knows all about what women do with their hands:

King Solomon.

This King Solomon though…

700 wives!

300 concubines…!

How on earth did he do it?

Anyway, the point here is we can at least say that he’s had enough women in his lifetime to be able to identify two kinds of women:

Lady Wisdom and Madame Folly.

These words (wisdom and folly) personified as women by King Solomon depicts the kind of women one should or should not be.

“The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.” (ESV 14:1)

See how classy Lady Wisdom is:

She prepares a meal and steps out and says; “Are you confused about life, don’t know what is going on? Come with me, oh come, have dinner with me! I’ve prepared a wonderful spread- fresh-baked bread, roast lamb, carefully selected wines. Leave your impoverished confusion and live! Walk up the street to a life with meaning.”

Yet, see what Madame Folly does instead:

She says, “Are you confused about life, don’t know what is going on? Steal off with me, I’ll show you a good time! No one will ever know- I’ll give you the time of your life.” (MSG Proverbs 9: 13-18)

Which hands do you have, Queen?

Hands that bring life?

Or hands that teareth a thing down?
Maybe like Madame Folly, you have been living an ‘all about me’ life (… steal of with me). Doing things behind locked doors and bedsheets because you believe thats what is going to save the situation.

Why not be like Lady Wisdom? Why not present that man you are interested in with the bread of life?

Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life (John 6:35)

This bread of life; Jesus- can fill you with enough strength to build.

To build that home.

That ministry.

That law firm.

That boutique.

Sad truth is when you shun this bread of life, you find that you don’t have enough strength to curb that tongue in an argument, or self-control that will keep you from cheating, or faith that will help you to believe for better things to come.

So instead, you take on folly’s hands and one by one, little by little, you tear down the great things God has given to you.

Don’t be like the woman folly.

Don’t take on folly’s hands.

I speak the Grace to live a life that causes you to build and not tear down all that God has for you, In Jesus name, Amen.
