This week, I am being reminded of wolves in sheep clothing.
The image that literally comes to me is the doleful and innocent look that most sheep have and yet, behind that facade are teeth as sharp as knives; ready to tear you apart.
Have you ever met anyone with talk as smooth as silk and a face as angelic as a halo?- and yet when they show their true colors (as the saying goes), if you dare try to expose them, another might say you are exaggerating or taking it too personal?
Hahaaa!
Well, if you haven’t, thank God- and I pray you stay clear of them.
In the life of great Queen Esther, she met a wolf in sheep clothing.
Haman.
“After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, and advanced him and set his throne above all the officials who were with him. And all the king’s gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him.” (ESV Esther 3:1-2)
After reading this about Haman, one might say, “O surely, if the king promoted him, then he must be a good man! If he has been able to get to such a level like this then surely he can’t do any wrong.”
Certainly, Queen Esther thought the same. In her preparation towards marriage and becoming the Queen of Persia, she never thought for a second that certain people who were close to her king could in anyway have evil intensions; least of all, Haman!
Because this was a man that was being elevated everywhere he went in Persia and I will bet whenever Queen Esther run into him, he bowed low, enticing her with words like, “My Queen… how enchanting you look this fine day,” and with that, Esther and her maidens will giggle, flustered, as they walk away; not seeing his evil intentions.
But just imagine, this same Haman, honored by the king, was sneaking around the king’s back and using the kings signature to send out letters to kill the jews!
“Letters were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with instruction to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all Jews, young and old, women and children, in one day…. And the King and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Susa was thrown into confusion.” (ESV Esther 3: 13,15)
The king couldn’t for one second believe that this man could do a thing like that, so he sits down to have a drink with this same wolf in sheep clothing (Haman) whilst the city is set in confusion!
One way to detect wolves in sheep clothing is that they bring about confusion!
They set friend against friend and family against family! They will tell you, “Don’t mind that girl- she forced herself on me thats why I dated her.” They will tell you, “People are just jealous of what I have accomplished. Don’t mind what they say about me.” Wolves in sheep clothing bring confusion to the heart and mind! They look so innocent and loving that unless someone is to experience their wolfish ways first hand; they would never believe another who says otherwise about them.
Queen, even us you embark on your preparation towards your dreams, your goals and even marriage, remember what Jesus said:
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”(ESV Matthew 7:15)
Watch out Queen! Watch out for those who come and falsely prophesy into your life! Telling you that, “I will love you forever,” (false prophecies), “I will marry you,” (false prophecies), “I will give you my heart and live on batteries,” (hahaha, even more of a false prophecy), instead- detect them like Jesus says:
By their fruit you will recognise them- a good tree cannot bear bad fruit (ESV Matthew 7:16,18)
That job you are going for- you are always hearing bad report. Than man- that thing he does, he does to every other lady. Queen Esther had to rise up and see the fruits of Haman and once she detected it- she took it further into prayer, thereby delivering herself and the Jews from the plans of Haman.
May you detect every Haman in your life!
May God eventually rip off that sheep clothing off their backs to cause your eyes to be open!
May God bring a King Ahasuerus (be it in the form of a good job, a good purpose or good man or woman) to stand by you through it all,
Jesus loves you and I do Too,
